Dog Training
Low maintenance dogs… if that is what you are looking for then I suggest you stop looking for a dog in the first place. Every pet needs food, water, love and attention. Some require heavy grooming and daily brushing, while others don't need any more than a bath every month or so. Many breeds are just born trouble makers, beware of the terrier and hounds that live to dig holes in search of prey or escape. We have all come across yappy little Yorkshire terriers, great big slobber and mud coated beasts and more seriously the aggression and fierceness displayed in roaming pit bulls.
I believe all dogs are capable of becoming sweet natured friends given the appropriate level of training. If you are not up to the task of teaching the dog yourself then find a pro, this would be a wise course of action if you plan on getting large breeds with reputations for causing trouble.
Of course you must treat the dog respectfully. When they are puppies socializing is vital. You should begin during feeding time, when the pup is eating start petting and pushing him around. Play with his ears and tail, put your hands in his dish, take it away and give it back repeatedly. This will teach the dog that he doesn't have to be protective of his food. He will become accustomed to interruptions and know that the food will still be there when he gets back to it.
