The Right Dog Food Will Keep Your Pet Happy
Up until the turn of the nineteenth century, a dogs mission in life was to be a strictly work and no play. They were given a plain diet of wheat and barley…meat was only for the high society dogs.
Fortunately, now a days food is a bit more interesting and certainly provides the essential nutrition that a healthy dog requires.
Thank Mr James Spratt for producing the first commercial food meant specifically for dogs. Conveniently bagged and ready to be scooped into an empty dish.
It is worth buying your dog the best food, but it need not break your budget. Large bags of dry kibble can be very economical, a medium sized dog eating two meals a day can make the bag last for a few months. Always check use by dates and the same
food safe rules apply to your dog as they do to you. Do not give raw mea ts, poultry fish or eggs and keep their dishes clean and sanitary. Most dog dishes can and should be washed a long with the other dishes. Dish washers are perfect.
Consistent Diets are Important:
Try and feed dogs the same type of food, at the same time every morning and evening, in the same spot with the same dish. Some dogs really dislike drastic changes to their feeding habit. Many to the point that they feel nervous or sick to their stomach.
If you must change make it as slow and easy transition as possible. Most especially when it comes to getting them to try a new food. Start with only a small taste. Mixed in with their regular food and gradually increase the amount. Treats are meant as an occasional… well treat. Most are high in fat, salt and preservatives to choose natural low fat snacks whenever possible.
Something else to watch out for is how much you are giving you pet to eat. Ask your vet, they can tell you the guidelines for your pets weight and health needs. A young rambunctious cattle herding dog for instance will have very different nutritional needs than your grandmothers rather lazy but cuddly fluff ball of a dog.
Following these simple steps will ensure your pet is never hungry and never begging for scraps. The cute face is tempting but you are really doing more harm than good by feeding dogs human food.
